It's been a long time since I read Daughter of Smoke and Bone so I had a bit of trouble remembering what had happened and where that left off, but once that was back in my mind I really started to enjoy this sequel. It's very much about war rather than romance, and while Akiva and Karou are apart, there's still a spark which just cannot go out.
