SO...this book was weird for me. I liked the idea of it, but I didn't at all enjoy the experience of it. I can't put my finger on anything specifically, and yet had to keep forcing myself to finish it. I'm just not sure. The writing is good, the story is good, the plot is interesting, and yet I found the experience completely unenjoyable. That doesn't even make sense...

Notes: I read the eARC (electronic eBook Advanced Copy Reader version provided by the publisher via NetGalley) and will need to check my quotes against the finished book. The book is a bit more violent than most Young Adult books as there is a war going on.
My synopis:
'Once upon a time, an angel and a devil fell in love and dared to imagine a new way of living--one without massacres and torn throats and bonfires of the fallen, without revenants or bastard armies or children ripped from their m ...more

So, I am glad that I decided to keep reading this series. I wasn't sure if I was going to after finishing the first book. Don't get me wrong - I enjoyed the first book to some degree and I think the four star rating I gave it was deserved.
This book, however, was SO much better. I felt as though the focus shifted from Karou's and Akiva's romance to the over-arching plot line of the race war between the seraphim and chimaera. I enjoyed tha ...more

I am in love with this series! Laini's developed something really special here. Her writing style, character & world building, and translation of true human emotion are beautiful and unique. It is as accessible as most YA, but really delves deeper in plot complexity than most. I'd hate to drop any spoilers so I won't say anything specific, but if you have fallen in love with many of the character's from book 1 like I have, book 2 will leave you satisfied and jumping for joy by the end.

I can not speak highly enough of this book or its author. Second in the series, and as lyrical and beautifully written as the first.

I'm a sucker for a happy ending and this just sucks! Big time! I would have given it four stars just because I didn't get my HEA but then the end was an agonizing cliffhanger that the next book could only be better right? :-)
God! This is frustrating! After all their troubles in trying to find peace and be together they stiil have doubts? Can't blame them really but it's getting to my nerves! That I'm pulling my hair out!
Just find them a HEA, will you Ms. Taylor? At least give us hope! Let them b ...more
