I have had a great book year so far. If you flip back through my reviews for the past few months you will see a lot of 4 - 5 star books. I am adding this one to the list too! This story was original and fresh. Yes magic/witches have been popular but this story was different from all the others. Shelves: 1st-in-series

My Thoughts: This is going to sound bad. This book was mainly forgettable to me. It's been awhile since I finished it and the main characters did not stick with me. What did stay with me were the side stories. The background of both Silla and Nick's parents. I found their stories to be more interesting and entertaining. Also the journal entries of the old witch and how she came into her powers kept me reading.

Shelves: young-adult, ya-fantasy-paranormal

Even though I was impressed by Gratton's writing and uncensored approach to YA, Blood Magic did leave me with a rather bad taste in my mouth. Why? Well, there was a scene of rather horrible animal death that served absolutely no purpose whatsoever. Had this served some sort of narrative purpose, I might have been able to put the scene into context... but it didn't. All it did was serve to make me loathe the main character.

But could I be convinced to read something else by Tessa Gratton? Perhaps. ...more
