I have wanted to read a Jacqueline Carey book in what seems like forever. I've been attracted to and purchased quite a few of them, but never managed to set aside the time to read them. Then this book comes along with this beautiful and fun cover and I just caved and had to read it.

I think I'm in love. This book is not the dark and gritty urban fantasy I thought I would get by reading a Jacqueline Carey book and for me, in this story, it worked

I have a confession to make...I am still trying to truck on through Kushiel's Dart. Look at my "to read" shelf and it's been on there for a few months. I *think* I like Kushiel's Dart...I'm just finding it slow-going/hard to become immersed in. That said, I decided to go ahead and pick up Dark Currents and give it a whirl even though I wasn't sure if it would suffer the same fate as Kushiel's Dart.

I love Jacqueline Carey's writing. Her Kushiel's Legacy series is lush, dark and intense. The Sundering Duology blurs the distinction between good & evil and is intense in a different way. I was interested to see what Carey could do with a modern Urban Fantasy and while Dark Currents was very entertaining and I thoroughly enjoyed the read, I missed that intensity of emotion.

I really liked this one. I read through some of the reviews and it seems like a lot of people are disappointed that this isn't like Carey's other, earlier books. I can respect that but since I didn't read them I don't have that issue.
