Accidentally Catty (Accidentally Paranormal #5) in SOS: Serious Overload of Series

Dakota's Accidental Friends series was an accidental find for me back in 2008. I stumbled on the first book, The Accidental Werewolf in an airport bookstore. It was the only light and funny book available that might hold my interest for the long flight ahead. While there are things about this series that drive me batty, throughout the four previous installments I have gotten a kick out of seeing how they each handle their "accidental" change and introductions into the world of supernatural(ly ho Dakota's Accidental Friends series was an accidental find for me back in 2008. While there are things about this series that drive me batty, throughout the four previous installments I have gotten a kick out of seeing how they each handle their "accidental" change and introductions into the world of supernatural(ly hot guys). The first book had more of those "things that drive me batty" (ie: Color Wheel overload), but it did more than hold my attention, it had me trying to hold in my giggles so the people next to me didn't think I was a freak. From then on, this series has never failed to make me laugh out loud and for that, I thank Dakota.

Accidentally Catty introduces us to a character outside of the Fab Four's circle, Katie Woods. She a vet who accidentally gets scratched by a cougar who has shown up at her clinic. When you're facing something unexpected and supernatural, who ya gonna call? OOPS. Leave it to this bunch to come up with a name like that. OOPS is their Out in the Open Paranormal Support hotline. Nina is doing what she does best, pick on Wanda and Marty.

The lady of OOPS get a call from Katie's vet tech and rush to her rescue. This beautiful cougar turns out to be shifter, Spanky/Beck/Shaw. He's got amnesia, but there's one thing he's certain about ... his feelings for Katie. She can't help but notice his good looks, but she's 41 and he's ... younger, or so she thinks.

The team heads to Katie's Aunt Bettina's (or Teeny for short) house. And the hits just keep comin'. There's no shortage of LOL lines in this one and Teeny has more than a few. The girls help Katie deal with her hot cougar and transition. Nina, a vampire, has some trouble adjusting to their temporary accommodations.

"... let's get one thing straight, pussycat. I'm fucking tired. I slept in a walk-in closet that smelled like the perfume counter at Macy's all in the name of some peace. I need to feed soon. Add to that, I don't like people - especially new people like A River Runs Through It and you, Chicken Little. Being with you all for the last twelve hours has been like some kinds of 'new people' intervention by force. It makes me cranky. So can the cocky."

There's a plethora of hot, sexy quips used to describe how luscious they find Shaw. Some of my favorites include:

Teeny's reaction to meeting Katie's hottie,

"Ooooh-weeee. Ain't you finer n' a plate of fried chicken and gravy? I could just sop you up in a biscuit."

And, Casey notes,

"...he's fabulous and worthy of a good sheet shining. You have to admit, he's like a Blow Pop. One you wanna lick till you get to the middle."

I thought the series would stop once all the members of the main group of girls got their HEA, but I'm happy to see it continue. I'm even happier to see there are two more expected in 2012: Accidentally Dead, Again and The Accidental Genie. ...more

This will be short and sweet. Nina is back with a vengeance, and she's found twitter, and it's awesomely hysterical. When she calls it that there's always a crazy woman involved, its great! She is my favorite part of this series. You have to be able to deal with huge amounts of profanity (no problem from me) to really enjoy her, but she's brutally honest and once you get to see what she's really like, she is written as the fiercest friend who will do anything to save those she cares about. Nina was flat out annoying. I didn't realize anyone could swear that much. Especially in one sentence.
When she wasn't mouthing off, Katie and Shaw weren't that interesting.
