DNF at 48% at the point of marital rape by the hero, Jamie. This is after many sexual assaults and attempted rapes on Claire by multiple men. Other points of frustration include: Claire's IQ nosediving when she decides to trek through enemy territory alone which put many lives at risk when she was captured and had to be rescued, and domestic violence is her punishment - which I sort of understand given the cultural requirement for justice and forgiveness, but the severity of that beating went to

Good gods! This is a long book!

I can't believe I set this aside for so long when it is such a fabulous read! It's written so good, that I fear it might have ruined me for other historical romances! Diana Gabaldon is a phenomenal writer. She writes everything to the very last detail, and the world of the book feels just too real, drawing all sorts of emotions from me. Outlander is lovely, magical, raw, and just... it'll make you take a deep breath once you've finished the first book. Her characters... I've never ready anything

It was first and foremost a romance. It has a time travel aspect but that is a back burner story. If you're looking for science fiction, you'll be disappointed. But I loved the romance. I don't read romances often and this was a good one.
