If you like fae, magic and other worlds, you'll love this. I would've given the book 5 stars based on story alone, but there were parts when I struggled. Just when I was about to put the book down, it would get interesting again and I couldn't read fast enough. I look forward to reading more about Eugenie/Odile/Dark Swan's story in "Thorn Queen". Looks like I've have found yet another series to follow.

Out of the first books of Richelle Mead's three series, this is the best with Vampire Academy a close second.
It's incredibly fast-paced and action-packed, and had me hooked from the very first words. I identified with Eugenie's situation: I'm of mixed heritage and have also had a family member kept secret from me and heard it from someone other than my family so I know how it feels. Knowing sooner and being prepared would have been nice.

In the first of the Dark Swan series, she finds out more about her origins and begins a journey to fulfill, or not, her destiny. Kiyo Marquez, a kitsune (fox) shifter, and Dorian, a fae king, play pivotal rolls in her adventures.
I enjoyed her sass and the fast paced story. However, (view spoiler) ...more

There were some things in this book that I did not like, but the things that I did like out weighed them. I wasn't a fan of the love triangle and I wish that there would of been a little more action. I am looking forward to see what becomes of this series and who Eugenie ends up with, so I will be reading the next book soon.
