I'm very happy with this book and new series. What I'm most excited about is that Richelle Mead's new Bloodlines series stays in the same world as her Vampire Academy series. She has kept many of the same characters that played small parts in the VA series, such as Sydney the Alchemist, Adrian the Rich-boy x-boyfriend and sweet Jill also known as Jailbait. This book carried the heavy burden of setting up the whole series, and that is tough. Overall I give 3.5 stars. I love the characters and it felt good coming back to the VA world. I wish there had been more actual romance, but it can't all happen in the first book! I was glad to see Abe and of course Adrian and his emerald eyes and just rolled out of bed styling. The book took awhile to warm up but the ending picked up nicely, and the last sentence had me holding my breath! ...more

I really enjoyed it. It was a little slow in the beginning, but it eventually picked up. The characters in this book are the ones that were my favorites in the Vampire Academy series, and I am glad I got to learn more about them. There is still a lot to learn. So many unanswered questions. A great promise of an excellent journey to come.
