(I had this as four stars until I got to the last few chapters. Which rocked my damn socks off.)

Overall, I found this to be an awesome series starter. Basically, it's about sassy bartender, Rhiannon Murphy, and her induction (of sorts) into the world of the dead and undead. She's grappled with many past (metaphorical) demons as well as her own rare ability to see dead people. Rhiannon is great, she has this take no shit attitude. Which is her mask, her wall so to speak. She has a lot hidden things in her past, she's gone through so much pain. At first I wasn't a fan of how she treated and acted around Disco, but as the story went on things changed, her trust grew. Her lack of trust is understandable based on her past and well because hello vampire. Speaking of Disco, hello new book boyfriend.

She enters a world she's ignorant and afraid of and she tries

She is not a nice person. She's a total bitch.

She saves herself against a human male and against a vampire--although I was confused because she heard a vampire in her head but was allegedly fighting a human.

I don't like that it was just a thing that he fought for the confederacy, that Paine's family had slaves, and nothing about the wrongness was said. It's o
