The prose was still too purple for my liking but the story itself was quite fast-paced and I found the Cullen family as fascinating as ever. And I'm glad that Jacob and Edward finally learned to get along.

I hoped for some bigger clash between the Cullens and the Volturi, for a decisive strike and a shift in power, but the author wanted to keep a door open for possible sequels, I guess. There were so many things that happened in this book, and yet not enough of the events that I had hoped to see in this last book of the Twilight Saga. There is barely a glimpse of all Bella's human friends; they are totally absent from this book after that one brief scene at Bella and Edward's wedding. I would have liked to see something of them after Bella's transformation, or at least have someone mention in passing what they are doing now. Perhaps this lends more truth to the idea that Bella There were so many things that happened in this book, and yet not enough of the events that I had hoped to see in this last book of the Twilight Saga. There is barely a glimpse of all Bella's human friends; they are totally absent from this book after that one brief scene at Bella and Edward's wedding. I would have liked to see something of them after Bella's transformation, or at least have someone mention in passing what they are doing now. Perhaps this lends more truth to the idea that Bella was never meant for human life, and is much more suited to being an immortal. Obviously she doesn't give a crap about any humans other than Charlie. She's already distancing herself from Renee before the wedding.

It was very, very strange to have 1/3 of the book come from Jacob's Point of View. I think one of the main problems I had with this book was that there was so much action, and yet it's all disorganized and not really building to any sort of conflict until the last few chapters. At the end I find myself asking, "Where was the plot?" Then it seems to appear out of nowhere, much like what happened at the end of Twilight. I can swallow a lot of strangeness, especially when reading fantasy or science fiction, but some of the twists that Stephenie takes the reader on seem to come from nowhere. I'm just going to go with the theory that Charlie loves Bella so much that he's willing to do a complete 180 and overlook the fact Bella is now obviously so different. I did not, for one second, believe that Alice and Jasper had abandoned the Cullens.

One thing bothers me: what about Bella's aversion to the smell of blood? It's never even mentioned one time in this whole book. Now that she's carrying a hybrid baby she suddenly becomes okay with drinking liters of blood? The same stuff she hated so much just a few months before that she would physically lose consciousness at the very smell. Not even one whole sentence was spent on explaining this away, even though this characteristic of Bella's has been so heavily mentioned in previous books. Also, I wish I could have witnessed the conversation that took place between Bella and Rosalie when Bella first found out she was pregnant. It's obviously a huge turning point in their relationship and I guess it just got cut in light of all the other events that had to be crammed in. I can pretty much stomach all the other weird stuff-can even enjoy it most of the time. There's no cosmic rule that says authors must take into consideration what their readers actually want. Or even the rules of logic and the English language.

It's always very hard when you've read the last words of the last book in a beloved series. Who can forget how they felt, after 10 years of anticipation and enjoyment, when they read the last words of Deathly Hallows? It was the same with Breaking Dawn. I was so eager for more I would have swallowed anything that Ms. Meyer put on paper. I will forever enjoy the first 3 books more than this one. I was sorely disappointed that such a great opportunity seems like it was squandered somehow. I just can't put my finger on it. Maybe it's too fresh right now. But it is what it is and I'm glad the madness is over. Ha! If the Twilight movie is successful and they do 3 more movies, I'd like to see how they're going to portray this one on the big screen! ...more

Eulogy for Breaking Dawn

What a huge disappointment BD was I'm sorry to say. I bought this book on the first day it was available in the UK and I'm spent part of my vacation time in London reading this when I could have been site seeing. I mean I really, really wanted to love this. But my first thoughts were that someone had kidnapped SM and some Twilight fan-atic with an axe to grind had penned it. I enjoyed this final book of the series. I think the story will continue with some of the characters in the Twilight series. There were several plot twists that I did not see coming and some I guessed with the foreshadowing...this is not what I envisioned when I finished Eclipse.

The last third of the book is quite confusing, but you can refer to the glossary of characters at the back of the book.

The Jacob ending is creepy.

There are significant problems with this book, but I like the happy endin I enjoyed this final book of the series. I think the story will continue with some of the characters in the Twilight series. I loved Book 2 and 3, so I expected this one to be phenomenal. Unfortunately, I think the author was smoking something as she wrote the first half of this book. It was gruesome, disturbing and it gave me nightmares! The second half was much better and the ended to this saga was satisfying with a happy ending for all. I have to admit I will miss these characters, much as I do Harry Potter and his friends.
