I wanted so much to hate this book. I really did. I have been reading vampire books for a long time now (since before the paranormal genre really became popular) and had heard about this author and really thought it wasn't going to be something I would enjoy. As I am more into the adult themed books which usually come with alot of descriptive violence and sex.

However, a friend gave me the movie to watch and I sat down dreading it the whole time but felt abliged to check it out.

It took some patience to get through this book especially at the beginning. It's written for young adults and the flavor kept hitting my bullshit meter. I kept wanting to slap the girl and say grow up already!
But, the story didn't go exactly like I thought it would. It got pretty interesting about half way through. I'm not going to become a Twilight fanatic but I did like it. I haven't decided yet whether I'm going to read the rest of the series or not.

This book was read after I saw the movie, which made the book infinitely better. I love Meyer's ideas of interracial/interrspecies romance, and Edward Cullen in this first book of the series is to me the perfect romantic other. ...more
