If I regard this book as an ADULT dystopian-gothic novel, it's 5 stars hands down.
If I regard this as a YA Dystopian, it's 1 star.
How this book is classified as YA is beyond me. The themes are decidedly adult and the premise is incredibly disturbing. Dying young, forced marriages, rape, enslavement, teenage pregnancy, and medical experimentation are the central plot points of the story. Not great, I was sorry I got the 2nd one at the same time. This is not a YA or dystopia that is fun, scary or different. Just a YA, with dystopia thrown messily on top.
