Book 2 in the Chicagoland series takes place right after book 1. Things have not changed much. Merit moves in to the House. She is starting to execute her job as enforcer much more naturally. The main concern in this book is the investigation of raves, where supposedly vampires are doing mass feedings.

We start involving even more races into this political story by bringing in the weres. And we also bring in an old ex-boyfriend of Merit's.

While reading this book I found myself making predictions about how this series is going to play out based on my reading experience. And you, lucky reader, get to see them! Aren't you excited? I am too! Here we go!
Prediction 1: (Oh my heck, now I can't remember any of them! Crap! Wait, found it.) Lindsey will be killed in the near future. This is because Merit has too many girl friends, and Mallory is not expendable, seeing as how she has her woo-woo stuff. Lindsey is just a secondary character,

I liked this one more than the first. I enjoyed learning more about the characters and Merit's family. It was nice to see Merit use her researching skills. There are still some loose ends that need tied up, so I'm looking forward to the next book. ...more

This is still a good book, and I'm excited to continue this series, but there were definitely parts that bugged me. Mainly, Merit was a little frustrating, with her pushing everyone away and not being able to open up. Also not crazy about the love triangle and hope it resolves itself soon. Story wise, interesting, if a bit political for my taste. Overall, still a lot of the same wit and sarcasm, and pop culture references to boot. I mean, how often does anyone bring up Newsies?? ...more

Really more a 3.5 and looking forward to the next installment in the series. This second book felt a bit like a transition entry and was a bit slower in plot while still loads of fun in style.
