I enjoyed this book. It grew on me as the story went on.
Devlin, the tower of strength, furosity and self control. He is a killer, plain and simple. He is their leader, the Paladins, keeping the "Others" from coming into our surface world. Risking life, injury and even death to do so.

I'm not sure that Dark Protector deserves a full 4 stars, but it's definitely better than 3. Anyway, what has me on the fence is that the explanation of who and what the Paladins and the Others are is not fully fleshed out. And, in fact, a race of people living in the center of the earth is a little hard to swallow. But I liked the love story between Laurel and Devlin well enough that I'm going to give the series a second chance with Dark Defender. Would I recommend the book? With reservations.

What a great first book to a pnr series. This is your classic good vs evil scenario, with the fate of the world in the balance.
There is a barrier between our world and theirs, The Others. They want to come to our world because theirs is so terrible, though we don't know why cause we aren't going there.
