Harry Potter was my childhood. Ever since I've been trying to find that book that recreates that magic something that made that series so amazing.

Sophie is a witch. After a magic disaster, she is sent to Hecate Hall, where she attends school together with fae, shifters and other witches. Something is draining the Hex Hall students of their blood, but why and who?

The first thing that struck me is how Hex Hall was more juvenile than I was expecting. Lately I've only read older YA books and adult b

This book got 4 stars instead of 3 by surprising me with the ending. Many times in YA books, they are super predictable, so I appreciate something outside the box. Hecate is a boarding school for witches, fae and shifters who have exposed magic to humans. Sophie is sent there and feels behind as she was raised by her human mother. She also ends up with the only vampire in school as her roommate. There are the obligatory mean girl/witches and the crush, but at this school one student has already ...more

Hex Hall, by Rachel Hawkins, you had me at prologue. I just loved how this book started out, a love potion gone wrong, and boy did it go wrong.

Hex Hall is about a teenager named Sophie, who finds herself sentenced to a boarding school for other kids like her, those that have risked outing their abilities. Sophie first day is like anyone’s typical first day at a new school. She ticked off a werewolf, got a roommate who is a vampire, got a crush on the bad boy, and turned down a chance to join the

It was fun. A YA book told from the viewpoint of a very typical teenage girl who just happens to be a witch. If you look, you'll see it's published by Hyperion, which is part of Disney Book Co., and it has a somewhat feel good Disney vibe to it, even though if I think about it, there were some unpleasant events and imagery, but yeah, still had the vibe.

Overall, a book you can just pick up and enjoy as a quick, light read :)

This book was awesome! I loved Sophia's sense of humor and sarcasm. I have to admit...I developed a bit of a fantasy crush on Archer...who I've come to think of as a witchy/assisiny Damon Salvatore <3. But anyway, ...more

I really enjoyed this book. I liked some of the original twists, such as the spell on the furniture. Looking forward to finding out what happens with archer.
