I've just finished Glass Houses. What a refreshing change to have bad vamps. I really really liked it.

Luckily I've got the 2nd one & I've had a sneak peek, cause I hate cliffhangers.

I'm not much into YA and having a 16 yr old as the Heroine makes me think this should of been "Twilight" instead of Twilight. Much less angst and a lot more action, and a lot more scary. Looking forward to the next one in the series. ...more

I really liked this story! I can't stand a YA book that has the main female fall crazy in love with a guy she just meets and some how just 'knows' that they are meant to be together forever, it's fate, blah blah blah. Thank the heavens above Claire, the main female, did not do this. She was real and pulled at my heart strings from the beginning. I wanted to jump in the book and beat the living shit out of Monica or slap one of the 'blind' bystanders for not doing something. Grrr...
So right away I really liked this story! So right away this book had me feeling and rooting for Claire. When she joined the Glass House and met the other roomies, I totally expected her to go gaga over Michael. But to my happy suprise, she didn't. She did notice that he was a hottie, as any red blooded female should, but she wasn't ridiculously smitten or ready to devote and pledge her undying love after a first encounter with either of the guy roomies. Instead, she slowly built a friendship with all roomies, learned a lot of crazy stuff about that little town and soon became a permanent member of the Glass House. I also liked the change of story, for once the characters that the book is about are not the supernatural kind, but actually human and the supes are the outside foes. I'm so used to reading about the main character or main characters squeeze being a vamp, were, fairy, ect. that it was nice to have it changed up and see actual humans as the good guys and the vamps as the not so good guys.
I loved Claire. Have I said this already? Well, I did. She came off in the beginning as this mild and scared little pixie of a girl, but at the same time, she seemed very brave to me. She was incredibly smart, she knew what she wanted and even if studying and being intelligent isn't the 'cool' thing, she didn't let the pressure of her peers stop her from continuing to move on and progress. How scary of a world it must be to a 16 yr old to enter college, but she did it, regardless of any fears and with a persistence of making it work to get where she wanted to go. I admire her strenght and by the end of the book, she was finding and using that strenght to her advantage. Instead of letting that bitch Monica scare her away from school or just giving up and calling her parents to come get her, she pushed on, found a place to live so she could continue her studying and found some great people on her side. Brave girl.
Now, the ending. Well, I won't spoil anything but let's just say I was shocked, a bit pissed (ok a lot pissed), stunned and saddened. I hope that the next book can redeem this shocking 'thing' for me. Maybe it was meant to be though. Who knows. I like the way the author writes and I already trust her judgement after only one book so I will read on and I do in a way believe redemtion is there, somewhere, some how....it has to be!

Ok.... it was a tad simplistic with the dialogue and the characters a bit thick and/or childish at times BUT there were some things that I actually didn't see coming.... and I loved that! ...more
