Even since the first book, I was really intrigued by Jag, the most original character in the whole series. You see, Jag is a jerk of monumental proportions who seems to delight in annoying his fellow warriors so much that most conversations turn into a fight. His latest? Repeated (and graphic) public requests for a threesome with a newly mated pair. Why would a man behave like this? I was really looking forward to finding out the reason in this book. And once I found out, it made co **3.5 stars**

Even since the first book, I was really intrigued by Jag, the most original character in the whole series. You see, Jag is a jerk of monumental proportions who seems to delight in annoying his fellow warriors so much that most conversations turn into a fight. His latest? Repeated (and graphic) public requests for a threesome with a newly mated pair. Why would a man behave like this? I was really looking forward to finding out the reason in this book. And once I found out, it made complete sense to me.

Olivia belongs to an elite group of Therian fighters. The first time she meets Jag, he fondles her breast and asks her to go up to his room. (I told you he was a jerk.) But Olivia puts him in his place and since then, he’s strongly attracted to her. With his special brand of taunting and heckling, Jag gets himself partnered with Olivia for a hunt. Even though she doesn’t like him (who would?), she’s extremely attracted to him. While working with him, she can see glimpses of a better man who is constantly squashed by Jag’s jerk persona. But soon, Jag finds out Olivia’s big secret and Jag being Jag uses this knowledge to his advantage. He coerces Olivia to sex.

This is most objectionable part of the plot and I’m sure tons of people will have problems with it. I didn’t as much because a) it made sense given Jag’s character and b) she had to agree to the sex before he went through with it. In their culture, sex is used for pretty much everything: to open up the mind to magic, to cleanse themselves from a magic attack, in rituals, etc. so even Olivia didn’t think it was that big of a deal, although I recognize that she probably would have held up a lot longer before giving in if she had had the choice.

Olivia and Jag have a lot in common: something very similar happened in their lives that has caused them huge pain and guilt. This allows her to understand him a lot better than he realizes because unlike Jag, Olivia has found a way to deal with the past and she helps Jag do the same.

“It’s ok to fail sometimes. We all do. They key is trusting yourself to try to do the right things and forgiving yourself if you fall short on occasion.”

With this book, I realized why Rob Shapiro’s narration seemed a bit dreamy on occasion. Because he doesn’t use a neutral narrator voice for the 3rd person POV but uses the heroine’s voice when we see things from her POV and the hero’s voice when we see things from his. This is not bad in and of itself if it weren’t because of the volume, which is so much lower with the female POVs. I’m having problems hearing those parts no matter how high I have the volume on my phone.

I’m still enjoying some of these audios and getting them free from the library so for now, I’m continuing the series. ...more

4 1/2* Jag is the mean, bad-boy Feral Warrior. Olivia has a secret that could mean her death if anyone found out. Can Olivia get past Jag's attitude to the man inside? Will Jag keep Olivia's secret when he discovers it?

As usual, this Feral Warriors book kept me reading way past my bedtime. I had trouble putting it down every night even though I was falling asleep.

I'm still enjoying this series!

Jag is such a typical male in the beginning, I really didn't expect to like him anywhere near as much as I did to be honest. Olivia really helped ground him. As a couple they go well and I was in their corner all the way! I have the next one but I'm going to try and not read it for a little bit... I don't want to have to wait too long for book 6! ...more
