I had heard so much about this book that I just had to get it. I bought this one and the second one in the trilogy, Catching Fire, at the same time and read them both is a little more than a day =)

The Hunger Games gives us a look in a possible future of the society and world we live in today. We follow Katniss about a century after environmental catastrophes have changed the face of North America and the former United States is now Panem, a nation divided into 12 districts and a Capitol.

This book was very intense and left me eager for more! I was hesitant to read it at first even though it came highly recommended. Now I wish I didn't wait so long to read it. Every chapter left me wanting to read the next. I finished the book in a 24 hour time period! It was almost impossible to put down!

The story was very intriguing and original. The sad thing is even though it's a fictional book I can see it happening in the future. It seemed very realistic! The author writes in a way that you

This is one of those books that has a bit of everything. I smiled, laughed, cried, yelled out in my mind and kept wanting more. There was adventure, action, sadness, heartbreak and love. The strength of Katniss's spirit made me want to read it constantly until I was done. When I was finished, I was left feeling as if my brain was glazed over and my heart is still entwined in the story. The plot, characters and description of the setting, Games and the society they live in was well thought out an ...more

Wow. I'm speechless. I loved this book. I could go into how I think it could be seen as a commentary for our time and how violence is largely ignored and seen as "okay." That's all I'm going to say. If you haven't read it, do. Even if you don't normally read YA, I promise you; you will at least like this book even if you don't love it. I will say, I'm glad I got on the bandwagon late. I already have the next 2 and don't have to wait for publication. There is some benefit to waiting:-) ...more
