I thought this was the best book of the three in the series. I definitely recommend reading it, although, I felt the ending starting from where she encounters her sister, shall we say to keep from spoiling things, seems rushed. There were so many more details and tying up of loose ends and conversations that were needed that I felt a bit cheated. What can I say that probably hasn't been said or isn't going to be said in tons of other reviews?
This one was absolutely everything I hoped for and more. In a society that sent children to fight to the death, it's only to be expected that the consequences of war be just as horrendous. I LOVED this book, but I don't think it had enough closure, in my opinion. I don't feel like I got the sense of closure like I did with the Harry Potter books. I'm still left with a lot of questions, like what really happened to Gale? Yea, we know he ends up with some job in District Two, but I want to know what else happened to him. Did he ever marry? Did he and Katniss ever see each other again? Also, what happened to the other survivors? Did the Hunger Ga Okay, I really don't know what to say.

I'm still left with a lot of questions, like what really happened to Gale? Yea, we know he ends up with some job in District Two, but I want to know what else happened to him. Did he ever marry? Did he and Katniss ever see each other again? Also, what happened to the other survivors? Did the Hunger Games that all the victors decide to force the Capitol children into ever happen? If so, what happened in it? If not, what happened to the people living in the Capitol? Do the districts and Capitol get along now? Another question: what happened to the government? What kind of government dose the country have now? I still have so many questions that I want answers to! I'm naturally a curious person who wants to know EVERYTHING, so I might be the only one who wants answers to all these questions.

I also wanted to know how Peeta managed to recover from the hijacking the Capitol did on him. I mean, I honestly expected him to try to kill her more than the one time (or was it two?) that he did. Not that I'm complaining though since I liked him and had a feeling they would be the ones getting together at the end. Speaking of that, I'm glad Collins didn't let the romance distract from the main storyline. I'm a big fan of romance, but I was more interested in the action and war part of the book. I hate to say this, but I think she writes a better romance than Stephenie Meyer did with Twilight. Which is kind of sad in my opinion especially when you consider that this isn't a romance and Katniss said herself that she didn't want to get married. I felt that her connections to Peeta and Gale made more sense than the in Twilight.

Some good things about this book were:

1. The revelation about how Snow had gained his position; I was always curious about that.

2. The sudden killing of Coin; I never liked or trusted her to begin with.

3. Finnick and Annie's wedding; I thought that was cute and it kind of showed that there could be happiness and fun during a war.

4. Loved Katniss' speech when they were in District Eight after the attack.

5. I thought the scene with the cat at the end was sad and then sweet at the end when the cat accepted her.

On another note, this was one of the most depressing books I have ever read. I wasn't exactly expecting to to be happy though since it is a war and all, but it was very sad. Though, I kind of wish the ending was a little happier; I think Katniss deserved it after all she's been through. However, now that I think about it, I think it makes more sense to have her never fully recover and not be completely happy after everything that's she been through. I think soldiers who come back from war are the same way; they may be back home with their families and safe, but they will never forget what happened to them and what they saw. The horrors of the war will always be with them. I think the same thing can be said about Katniss or any of the survivors. For Katniss to be only seventeen and to have survived the Hunger Games twice and to have participated in and survived a war like that; it has to leave scars that can be never be healed.

This was book was actually hard to read at points due to all the people dying. Collins did a good job of getting me attached to a character before she killed him/her off. That made the death twice as bad because I actually cared about him/her by that point. I'm a bit surprised that she didn't kill Gale off... I don't know why, but I expected her to. The saddest part of the book has to be when Prim died; the part after that was written well, in my opinion. I really think Collins captured Katniss' grief really well.

Honestly, if they make this into a movie (which I'm assuming they'll make the last into movies if the first one does well), I have no idea how they're going to be able to avoid an R rating. So many awful (sometimes gross) things happen to Katniss and her group in the book. They get attacked and some get mauled by lizard human mutt things, someone else gets his skin melted off, and another gets his legs blown off among other gross things. People are getting shot and killed and bombs are being dropped a lot. There's so much violence and blood that I don't know how they can even possibly put it all in a movie and get a PG-13 rating, unless they make it less bloody and cut some of the more bloody bits out, but I think that would not be true to the book. I think the point of this book was to really showcase what happens in war and how cruel humans can be to each other when there is a war. The whole series showcases how cruel humans can be to one another to gain and keep power.

Anyway, this series is the next Harry Potter in terms of quality and just plain awesomeness, in my opinion. I don't think it will ever have the popularity that Harry Potter has, but I think it's one of the best YA novels I've read after Harry Potter and it definitely deserves credit for being one of the more unique series found in the YA section today. ...more

Really more 3.5 stars.

I did like it okay, but looking back, if I had stopped after book 1 I would have been happier. This one was a lot of politics and war, but not even exciting action-y war, cause Katniss is sidelined and doesnt do anything much until near the end, and then it all rushes past in a blur with many characters dying right and left with barely a mention in passing. As for the love triangle, what a fizzer. After reading three books I wanted more for Katniss than just to settle with ...more
