I would give it 1 star, I totally expected to give it 1 star, no stars if that was possible, but something happened right at the end - it made a little sense. All that nonstop rambling about Abbey's daily life of living w/o her BFF, meeting Caspain, the cemetary obsession - it came together in the end in a small way. Does it make up for the 400+ pages of blah, blah, blah though? Not a chance. Those 400+ pages still sucked ass and was boring as hell to get through. I even attempted to put the book down for a couple of days, but it drove me crazy that i didn't finish it so I picked it back up and skimmed the hell out of it to the end. I'll admit, I have a slight interest in book 2 only bc now that all the ground work has been layed out (400+ pages of it) maybe the book will focus on the supernatural aspect and be kind of good? Can one dream? I've learned to give all series at least a 2 book chance, but then that means I'd have to give Shiver a 2nd chance and I don't know if I can ever go back there. So, who knows, maybe once all the books on my TBR shelf are gone I can pick up Linger or the follow up to this book. Ha, yeah right, like the TBR shelf will EVER go down. One can dream :)
Anyways, back to the book. I ached for Abbey as she dealt with the loss of her best friend, Kristen. I hated everyone at her school for being so immature and ignorant and for how rude they were. I did not understand why she didn't ask Ben what his connection to Kristen was and then who the hell was D? I read and read and read about her every little move and I didn't really like her until she finally stood up for herself at the river at the VERY end.
I can't say I would recommened this book to anyone. It is just way too long with only the tiniest bit of supernatural at the very, very end. If you like reading about a teenagers daily life, then this is the book for you. Otherwise, avoid it. But, as always, these are my feelings on this book, you might think or feel different, so read it for yourself and find out. ...more

What drew me to this book was the trailer and synopsis I read about it and let me tell you, I was not disappointed at all.

It's really three and a half stars. It didn't really go anywhere till the last fifty-some pages. It was basically a novel about girl hurting from the loss of a best friend. The ending was horribly written, it sounded like the author only had five minutes before deadline and threw together something.
