I didn't find this book by normal means. While checking new books on Amazon I noticed the title of the book a few times and finally decided to look at the discription. At the time I wasn't sure if this was a book that would interest me but my daughters name is Kate Daniels so I HAD to buy the book. lol!
At first it was very hard to get into as the author created the world of her Kate, who at many points really reminded me of my Kate.

2018 Reread: Still 5 Stars!
I enjoyed this one a lot and I will get the rest of the series asap.
The story is set in a futuristic Atlanta, where technology and magic co-exist. If a tech-wave is imminent magic doesn't work, if a magic wave hits most technology doesn't work.
Kate Daniels, our kick-ass heroine, has a magic sword,is capable of doing magic and it is hinted that there is a lot more to her than we found out in this first installment of the series. Her guardian and knight-diviner of the O ...more

I liked this, but it wasn't as amazing as I was expecting. I can tell that the series will be a continuation of one big story with various things happening along the way in each book. It's a little more gory than I usually read, but not so bad I can't read it - it just makes me cringe.
I’ll definitely read the next in the series; I just hope it picks up a little more.

I liked it but it wasn't all that and a bag of chips.
It was just a bit too gory for me. Several people have this labled as PNR. I can tell you there is no Romance at all. I thought for a bit it was building up, maybe even a triangle but both fizzled before they even started and seemed pointless to have even been mentioned.
I may continue on with the series, if it fits a challenge, but for the sake of the characters I am not rushing out to get the next one.

Meh. Another first book where I lost interest because of too much world-building. I'm told the series improves - and Curran becomes hotter - as it goes on, but at the moment I'm in no hurry to read the rest. Also, the audiobook was OK, but it annoyed me greatly that the narrator pronounced "plait" as "plate". Grr!

I got this book because of so many people listing it as a favoriteon Amazon. The reviews were mostly positive so I gave it a shot. Was not disappointed. Kate is a great character. She reminds me of Briggs' Mercy. Great new series.
