Over the top crazy, yet achingly familiar

I am a great fan of G. A. Aiken’s Dragon Kin series, so I was quite sad when the author announced that she considered the series finished, especially as it didn’t feel that way. That’s why I am so delighted that The Blacksmith Queen, the first book in her new Scarred Earth Saga series, is set in the same world, but with all new characters.

The Old King of the realm is dead and his various sons scorch the country in the attempt to strengthen their position,

This is the Scarred Earth Saga, but its in the Dragon Kin universe, even though its on the other side of the world. We get hints of this when characters mention places and tribes, and the human queen of the Dragons. Love that!

Our blacksmith queen, comes from a long line of blacksmiths (mothers side of the family) and her father is a former soldier and now farmer.
