I like Darwin and her sisters and friends. Will is a bit annoying with his closed mind and the possible love triangle with Zach is worse.

I really appreciate that the book starts with the murder. It draws you right into the story. The murder investigation was pretty good as were the mystic elements. I really liked the mound and what all happened there. One of the minor explanations was just silly in my mind but the rest was good.

I liked the characters but the sister didn’t seem different enough to be someone who was mad for Darwin leaving home. She played a good role in this though. I also don’t understand why the sister 3.5 stars

I love Will and the situation with him really upset me. It doesn’t matter how small or big a thing it was, doing something to someone physically when they didn’t know about it and therefore couldn’t give consent is not okay. It’s violating and not just something to move past. They needed to have a real discussion about why it wasn’t okay first because the way they left it, it came across that she was right.

Someone who heard about it talked about giving an aspirin to someone but the person asked how was it different than ecstasy. She said it was intent. That would have been a good thing to say in a discussion with him about it. She needed to see his point of view though. Mine is that it was absolutely not okay. It’s was violating in more ways than one. People need to grieve but more than that, they need to trust the person.

I think the author was trying to be supportive of Native Americans by having the victim finding an artifact to give to someone trying to get those tribal items into museums. I’m pretty sure the Natuve Americans don’t want them in museums either. Regardless, right now, we need to return those things to the First Nations themselves immediately. Having it private a little while longer is not okay. You never know what will happen to it.

I still love this series. It ended with one of those cliffhangers that’s a story arc spreading across multiple books. I’m really worried about it and want to see what happens next. I have to read the next one soon!

The reader. Stephanie Einstein, was very good. Her Texan was accent is wonderful to my yankee ears. But there’s a character who should have a foreign accent by the way she speaks English and asks if she’s saying things right but the narrator had her speaking in a typical American voice.
