What Members Thought
The last couple of books in this series seemed very repetitive to me. Same conversations and same conflict with rehashed versions of past antagonists. However I still love the characters and especially the humour so I can't see myself stopping buying these books anytime soon.

I thought this was a great end to the series. I loved the fact that the main build-up between HFL and the Elders occurred in the last book, and this one was more focused on the aftermath and the relationships between those living in the Lakeside Courtyard. The story fit in well with the rest of the series, and although I couldn't help wishing for a little more to happen between Simon and Meg, this is primarily a fantasy novel, and it would have been too out of character for them to jump into a m

A perfect way to end this incredible series. The plot focuses back on Meg and Simon and the courtyard, and the damage one evil human can do to a town. I loved the development of these characters, that Meg had found an alternative to cutting and, of course, the progression of their romance. I will miss these characters but hope to see them again in the upcoming spinoff book.
Eager to join his friends for an early-morning run, Simon Wolfgard, leader of the Lakeside Courtyard, hurried toward the terra indigene Wolves who were using trees and shrubs for camouflage as they watched the paved road that looped the Courtyard.

It's hard to believe I've been reading Anne Bishop's books for almost 20 years now. I've been a fan of hers since the beginning and always eagerly anticipate new releases. So it shouldn't be a surprise that I loved this book. Bishop writes dark fantasy, often with humans more monstrous than the "monsters" themselves. Yet her books have moments of unexpected lightness and kindness also.

We're wrapping up our time with Meg, Simon and the other Lakeside Courtyard residents with this book. I know some reviews have pointed out that the books has a pretty slow pace, and it kind of does, but I love this world and these characters so much that I'll gladly read about Meg driving around in the BOW, making deliveries and interacting with The Others, the ponies, and the people of Lakeside.
