Lake Silence is the sixth novel in The Others series. I went into reading this one with no preconception of what the book summary was. I figured it was another story about Meg, Simon and all of the gang at the Lakeside Courtyard. Boy, was I mistaken.

This book about The Others changes location and characters; most characters - a couple we've met before in The Lakeside Courtyard. I was disappointed at first when I realized this book wouldn't be about the characters in the previous books but I was quickly caught up in the story. This story was great and although different every bit as good as the previous five entries in The Others Series.

Lake Silence is the first book in the next chapter of Anne Bishop's The Others series. We have left behind the Lakeside courtyard and our beloved Meg and Simon to explore a new area in Thasia. We now find ourselves in Sporing a small rustic town on the shores of Lake Silence, the smallest of the Finger Lakes. While I was sad that there won't be anymore focus on Meg and Simon and their journey I was overjoyed when I learned that there would be more books set in this interesting world. We now find ourselves in Sporing a small rustic town on the shores of Lake Silence, the smallest of the Finger Lakes. While I was sad that there won't be anymore focus on Meg and Simon and their journey I was overjoyed when I learned that there would be more books set in this interesting world. While moving on from the Lakeside gang it seems the story is also taking a step away from the blood prophets. They are mentioned and though not named outright Meg is reached out to at one point, but they are no longer a main focus of the story.

The new cast of characters centers around Vicki DeVine, newly divorced and trying to build a new life for herself after receiving The Jumble as part of her settlement. Vicki is my one small complaint about the book, she is no Meg. Not that I want the same character but I only have so much patience for crippling self-worth issues and seemingly unjustified male induced anxiety. Having grown up in a house with both a physically and emotionally abusive man who was far worse than Vicki's ex is described I found her weakness in certain moments irritating. Luckily everyone else made up for this one flaw.

Officer Grimshaw became a personal favorite for me. He was relatable and likable as a character. It's not hard to understand and sympathize with someone drawn into a mess bigger than what they imagined. There are no real twists or turns in his story or the overall story for that matter but the book does an excellent job of setting the scene for things to come. Many types of terra indigene live in and around The Jumble and the town of Sproing. Including the Sporingers for which the town is named after. They are interesting little creatures and I want to find out more about them. It also seems as if we will get a lot more interaction with Elders in this area as well which I know I look forward to. If you are a fan of the series or Anne's other works I highly recommend picking it up, you won't be disappointed. ...more

What? WHAT??
First thing I see that the cover has another model that looks nothing like the previous ones, I read the synopsys and no Meg and Simon???
Does she want to anger the whole community who has read her books so far??
Why?
Call it another name and do a spin off series, but not what ever this is.

Ok, so even thought it's not the same main characters still a great author so a good book. It has some side characters from the Others like ilya and jenny. ...more

I honestly wasn't sure if I would like an Others story without Meg and the Courtyard, but I shouldn't have doubted Anne Bishop. Of course I loved it. Fell in love with the characters right away, and truly enjoyed getting to know new Others and new humans. I have to admit, it is oh-so satisfying when the 'bad guys' get whats coming to them. I look forward to it in each one of these books.
Can't wait to see what's next. ...more
