4.5 stars. Swashbuckling adventure, fearsome steam-powered creatures, and sweet romance make this a great read. The setting is divided between a helium powered airship and Iceland's volcanic landscape. David is a vulcanologist. He is infected with nanoagents and his body has been rebuilt with bio-mechanical limbs, which makes him very strong but also isolates him as others are repulsed by his differences. Annika is the engineer on the airship, Phateon. She has left her isolated Sapphist village

I loved this book! I love this series! I can't decide if I like this one or The Iron Duke better. They're so different. That's the beauty of this series. Every book, every couple is different. Ms. Brook does not have a formulaic plot or hero/heroine that she follows. The only formula she seems to have is writing kick-ass steampunk stories that take place in a well planned, throughly thought out world. Riveted takes us from the New World to Iceland and all over that island during winter.

The latest installment of Meljean Brook’s steampunk romance Iron Seas series is heavier on the cultural elements and airship travel than the romance.
The first book The Iron Duke was dark, aggressive and sexy. In the second book Heart of Steel, Brook built on the world and gave us more adventure with lots of bedroom action. This third foray into the world of airships, steel body parts and nanoagents has a much slower build on the romance side ...more

3 to 3.5 Stars This novel takes place in the same world as the other Iron Seas books, but the characters do not overlap. I listened to this book, my first try at audiobooks, and while I liked it, it did take me a bit longer to get into the book and stop hearing the narrator's voice and just hear the story. I enjoyed the lighthearted Annika and more stoic David and their discovery of each other during a desparate time.

I loved David & Annika's romance. It was incredibly sweet and probably the most romantic of the Iron Seas books. I thought the world building dragged a bit in parts but the ending certainly picked up. Loved the trolls and only wish we had seen more of the clockwork dogs!
