Author Darynda Jones alerts readers: "While the title of the novella is Brighter Than the Sun, it is actually the darkest installment in the series. It is a Reyes’s POV prequel. Please be aware that it is chock full of STRONG and VERY SENSITIVE subject matter."

What this installment lacks in snark and humor, it makes up for in Reyes revelations. Fans of the series know how mysterious Reyes has been not only with Charley, but us as well. This short pulls back the veil a bit on the man behind the

As one of those "x.5" books that falls in-between the main series books, "Brighter Than the Sun" slots neatly between Book 8, after Charley conquers the hellhounds and learns that Earl Walker is still alive, and Book 9, when she wakes up with amnesia. This novella did not have the same lighthearted humor typically found in a Charley Davidson book. However, Reyes’ story is not lighthearted. That being said, I really enjoyed hearing Reyes’ story from his point of view, especially his interactions with Charley or “Dutch.” This book adds another layer onto the amazing character that is Reyes Alexander Farrow.
