What Members Thought

My feelings about Mistborn can easily be summarised: fantastic worldbuilding, predictable plot, and cardboard characters. I know this book has a very dedicated fan base though. If you're a huge fan, this review might not be for you.

I had expected to enjoy this one more than I did. I loved the first two in Stormlight series. I'll give this one a couple more books and maybe I'll be sold. The characters just seem way too powerful and things are way too easy because they can pretty much anything they want.

Wow. I just loved this one. My eyes were bloodshot and vision blurry, the house was a mess and the bills unpaid but I couldn't stop reading until I finished it. At least one reviewer said that this is more like Ocean's 11 than a typical fantasy book and I think that's true. In many ways it is a "caper" book with lots of planning, side jobs and banter. Besides being bored to tears by the "iron push" and "stell pull", or the other way around, I thought the book was quite clever, and I loved the characters. I find it a bit weird that this sort of evolved societies are still using candles 5 thousand years later, but ok.
I loved the twist at the end, and I love that the book never tries to paint the lord ruler as anything else than what he is, the people fighting to take him down are very flawed, but they are fighting the good fight.
