I turned into a watering pot during multiple scenes in this novel. The ending felt rather sudden and disjointed. Still, I'm looking forward to the next one.

I loved this one! Tales of travel and adventure always manage to grab my attention. I loved Lee, our heroine. She has to endure so much, but she's able to admit her mistakes and learn from them. Although there were some parts that were a little slow, I was always eager to see what was around the corner. I'll definitely be reading the next and I look forward to seeing what California brings to Leah's future.

Fascinating details and a lovable main character, but the story didn't grip me as much as I had hoped. I wanted more on her magic power and unfortunately, the journey west allowed for no further exploration of it and very few opportunities to even use it. It makes me wonder the point of her having this power at all.
