Lara Adrian's Midnight Breed series is one of my favourites, although I will admit to being not quite up to date with it. That didn't matter when I sat down to read this novella, because it can be read as a standalone as long as you are aware of the 20-year time jump between the start of the Breed series and its later stories. This novella was a treat! As a character, Jehan is known a little bit as he is an Order soldier in Rome and we met him in Lazaro's story. While this was a short book, it packed a lot in. It isn't the strongest of the short stories, but I liked how Jehan and Serephina both felt slighted by their families, then came together on their own terms.
