Ok, so there are a few SPOILERS in this review - you have been warned!

Ok, so as I scroll down the With All My Soul Goodreads page, I think to myself...it can't only be me that didn't like this book? It really hurts me to write this review, especially since Rachel Vincent is one of my favourite authors (and her Shifters series is AH-MAZING) I just expected so much more from this book.

With All My Soul reunites fans with Kaylee, Tod, Nash, Sabine, Emma, Sophie and Luca for the last time. Throughout the Soul Screamers series, Kaylee, her family and friends have battled Netherworld hellions. The hellion of greed, Avari, has been after Kaylee's soul; she's determined to do whatever it takes to end this war and ensure everyone's safety.

Throughout the series, each character has grown and changed - some more than others. These changes have kept the characters real for readers. But, With All My Soul reunites fans with Kaylee, Tod, Nash, Sabine, Emma, Sophie and Luca for the last time. Throughout the Soul Screamers series, Kaylee, her family and friends have battled Netherworld hellions. The hellion of greed, Avari, has been after Kaylee's soul; she's determined to do whatever it takes to end this war and ensure everyone's safety.

Throughout the series, each character has grown and changed - some more than others. These changes have kept the characters real for readers. But, there comes a time when battling evil becomes more important than high school dramas. In With All My Soul they find themselves spending more time in the Netherworld.

Kaylee's overwhelming need to rush in headfirst to protect those she loves hasn't changed. It's not that she doesn't believe in the saying, 'Two heads are better than one', it's that she sees that as one more head to be lost and chooses to take the bulk of the risk on herself rather than risk anyone else. Sadly, no matter how many times her loved ones tell her that none of this is her fault, she just doesn't see it that way.

I was a disease, infecting everyone I came into contact with, and the rot spread too fast to be contained. I went around with my scalpel, excising the infected bits of tissue - operating on lives and memories I didn't have the right to slice up - but the only way to truly stop the infection was to cut off the source.

To excise me.

I'd been struggling to clean up my own mess for so long that I could no longer tell if continuing to fight made me brave or selfish.

Together, the gang come up with a plan to bring down the hellions who have been terrorizing them. Will they all work together or will Kaylee once again take matters into her own hands? As with all the books in the series, sacrifices will be made.

I have thoroughly enjoyed this series. It's always hard to say goodbye to a series and its characters, but Rachel has done a wonderful job with this finale. Each of the main and side/main characters are seen and heard throughout the book so that we get closure on each thread woven throughout the previous books.

Thank you, Rachel Vincent, for giving me a series I didn’t even know I wanted until I had it.

Let me just confirm that With All My Soul wrapped up the Soul Screamers series rather perfectly. Kaylee has spent the past six books two steps behind her enemies, but when things go from terrible to so-much-worse, she knows just reacting to attacks is not going to work. But with hellion demons being pretty much impossible to beat, and with no power or leverage to think of, what’s a girl to do? Vincent set up the perfect storm, and with it delivered the perfect solution. Every bit of Kaylee’s growth as a character culminated into her choices in this book. Book 1 Kaylee, Book 4 Kaylee and even Book 6 Kaylee would not have preserved… I love it when an author actually knows where they want a character to go – and then takes them there flawlessly. So, kudos, Rachel.

So while I loved that the series was tied up with a bow, I didn’t get the same emotional response to With All My Soul that I did from the other Soul Screamer books. Perhaps it was just me, but it felt like a lot of the “Big. Emotional. Scenes.” were ones we’d seen time and time again. Kaylee feels guilty and angsts! Nash lashes out at people who love him with unnecessarily cruel remarks! Tod and Kaylee profess their (literally) undying love! Adults randomly disappear and cause more angst! Sabine is Sabine! FEELS are meant to be HAD!

But not for me. I mean, intellectually, I understood that all of this was “Very. Important.” but it felt like a rehash of the last book, at least in terms of character interaction. Sure, the plot itself was solid, but the only real emotional development came from Kaylee – and even that was more “Oh look, Kaylee is finally stopping to think before blaming herself”. Perhaps that sounds unnecessarily harsh, but even when I enjoyed Kaylee, I could still admit her self-hatred was damn annoying.

Bottom line? This was an excellent wrap-up of a brilliant series. That said, it didn’t pack the emotional punch that I so loved in the other Soul Screamers books.

As finales go, this fulfills all the requisite goals. It even made me wonder if Vincent was going to completely abandon the idea of a happy ending.

But it took so damned long to get there.

It's understandable that With All My Soul be ever so angsty. Combining a teen's sense of drama with a severe Hero/Martyr Complex guarantees an abundance of high emotions and long passages discussing love and determination. It's also a great recipe for hair-brained ideas.

This was a great ending to this series. I'm happy with how it ended. I was surprised at how the conflict was resolved; it was slightly shocking to me. I did shed a little tear when the story was being wrapped up and it showed everyone in their (hopefully) happily ever afters. The only negative (not enough to bring down my stars though) is that Kaylee is too much of a martyr sometimes and can be too impulsive/quick to act. But in the end it all worked out (view spoiler) ...more

This was mostly a 4-Star book, but I liked the ending so much that I bumped it up a star. I confess, that by the time I was about two thirds of the way through, I started to get worried about how she could resolve so much is so little space. But this really was a fitting end for a great series.
