Whoo! I probably should've reviewed this book before having continued onto the next book, because they're all so dense, full of information and action galore.
With the huge chunk of world building done in Magic Bites, this installment was able to get right off to a fun and satisfying start. There's a few months' distance between books one and two, so Kate is able to process and go through a few stages of grieving over her late mentor, Greg. Kate returns to find herself acting as "mom" to a young girl in some serious trouble. The sexual angst in this book was even worse than the first one, as she is repeatedly reminded that she hasn't gotten any in a while even though she seems to be continuously asked by the new character, Bran. She finds herself not only trying to take care of and protect the young girl (Julie), but she is also facing a mystery of sorts - either she figures out what is happening and why, or the world as she knows

Loving the tension between Kate and Curran primarily because it is not taking over the whole story, but a nice cherry on top!

yet another exciting adventure with Kate at the helm.
I think I liked this adventure better than the last.
I hope Julie shows up in later books...I liked the whole Kate looking after Julie thing. I was thinking something like what happened to her with Greg might happen here. you know the whole mentor/guardian thing.
as for Curran....my judgment is still reserved for him.

Great. I blew through this one so fast. Can't wait to get started on the next. This one reminded me a bit of Patricia Briggs' Mercy series. Not because things are similar per say, but more because of the tough chick, first person POV and a character named Bran.
