I'd rate this one 3.5 stars. It's a really hard book to rate though. The first half of the book was a lot if information and I didn't feel much interest in Kate's mission, and, in fact, I was mostly just confused and was still trying to figure out Kate as well. Apparently it just took me a loooong time to assimilate this new world and acquaint myself with the characters. However, somewhere along the second half, I was invested in, not only Kate, but her quest and the beastly Curran. I would rate

I liked this, but it wasn't as amazing as I was expecting. I can tell that the series will be a continuation of one big story with various things happening along the way in each book. It's a little more gory than I usually read, but not so bad I can't read it - it just makes me cringe.
I’ll definitely read the next in the series; I just hope it picks up a little more.

Only ok, but I might be willing to check out the next one.

Meh. Another first book where I lost interest because of too much world-building. I'm told the series improves - and Curran becomes hotter - as it goes on, but at the moment I'm in no hurry to read the rest. Also, the audiobook was OK, but it annoyed me greatly that the narrator pronounced "plait" as "plate". Grr!
