Wow! This was a really good book. If it was a movie I would never be able to watch it for all the gore. The story was original and kept me interested and I love Kate.
More review to come... one day.... soon I hope.
And here it is! More review as promised!
LOVE. KATE.
"Eleven out of twelve work fine. I'd say that's better chances than getting an orgasm with a blind date and women still try."

"It's a reflex. Hear a bell, get food. See an undead, throw a knife. Same thing, really."

When I first started reading this it was sooo hard to get into. It took me til 100 pages into the book for me to really start liking magic bites. The world is hard to get used to but once you read it, it is really good. I mean once you understand it all, it will become one of your favorites. My kind of urban fantasy book. I loved Kate, she is badass and I just loved her attitude and personality. And OMG. Curran! I love this man! He is my favorite shifter of all this shifter books I have read! I

Sort of a noir who-donne-it set in a post cataclysmic even in Atlanta. Kate is a sarcastic hard-case with a penchant for mouthing off to the wrong people, but since she's the first to want to slap herself in the head for it, she comes across as roughly endearing rather than obnoxious.
The world setting is very interesting and the characters have many dimensions. Very enjoyable.

May be a 3.5 not quite 4. I was a bit disappointed because I've heard so many praises about this series. I was having trouble follow thru the first several chapters of the book but it got better in the end.
I like Kate character and that's pretty much it. Didn't feel the real connection/attaction between Kate and Curran at all. WTH? I was expecting fireworks. Dang it.
I will read the next book, and hope it's better than the first one. If not, I'm moving on. ...more

This one was just okay for me. Honestly, kind of disappointing. I remember this series being super popular when it first came out, but I don’t really see why. The characters didn’t have much depth, and the author didn’t go into enough detail about the world building. I was confused most of the time about how the magic system or the world even worked. The writing felt really dry and didn’t have much voice or personality. I’ve heard the series gets better so I might read the next one.
I don't know if I should give this book 3 or 4 stars... it took me a while to get into the story.
Plus didn't love Kate... I do like Curran very much!
It's just that... I don't know, too much explaining, to many characters, too many weird things going on..
AND I was expecting some lovin' at the end... maybe in the next book?
meh!, I don't think finding out is worth reading another book. ...more

Gory much? Interesting premise. Not seeing the big Curran attraction very much. But this is a world building starter. All the references to past events frustrated me. I felt like there should have been a reaaaaally long prologue or prior book(s). Still and all, I liked it a lot and will read the next book.
So, do they ever actually fight? Guess I will have to continue reading to find out.

I really liked this first book in the series. I will definately be reading the next!
