The book is about a boy who lives in a dystopian type of world. People are poor, they are hungry, the literally live in motor homes stacks upon each other to crazy high levels. They also spend a lot of their time playing a video game.

Wow. What can I say? This was a fantastic book and I loved every minute of it.
This is a sci-fi story set in a dystopian world, though most time is spent inside the virtual reality of a MMO called OASIS, which is used by pretty much every person on the planet in order to live a second life, without having to worry too much about the disintegration of the real world.

I ended up really enjoying this story. The first 25-30% of the book had a lot of gamer references that went right over my head. However, once I'd waded through the beginning, I found myself totally immersed in the story and rooting for Wade and his cohorts. Ready Player One had an interesting premise -- offering a very creative new world and plot that was both thought provoking and entertaining! ...more

Intriguing dystopian/video game YA sci-fi. I thinking video game novels are going to get their own genre. I got a lot of the game references but hardly any of the music references. This book is a treasure trove of nostalgia for the 80's. Interesting idea to mix modern interests (MMO games) with parents remembering.
