I'd like to first take a moment to quote a section of the book:

"And you can bet that Galileo, Newton, and Einstein never would have made their discoveries if they hadn't first been able to clear their heads by slapping the salami (or "knocking a few protons off the old hydrogen atom"). The same goes for Marie Curie. Before she discovered radium, you can be certain she first discovered the little man in the canoe".

That alone would have made the book for me. Absolutely freaking hilarious. Not onl

The book is about a boy who lives in a dystopian type of world. People are poor, they are hungry, the literally live in motor homes stacks upon each other to crazy high levels. They also spend a lot of their time playing a video game.

I loved it.
I am just one year older then Anorak,so totally lived most of the described '80 period and enjoyed now being reminded about it all..
And yes,Oasis would find a new faithful participant in me :)

For those who didn't read the book...
It is about a huge virtual online world a crossing between "second life" and..lets say -"world of Warcraft" .A very huge part of the human population is participating in this virtual reality, kids going to school, people working, earning money, having fun etc..and

This book was very cleverly done. A definite must read for any gamer or any 80s pop culture fan.

What a great book! Very different than what I usually read. I'm very conflicted on the idea of OASIS as it sounds awesome to check out but maybe too awesome? Maybe it needs a time limit? I really wonder how those people stay practically still for so many hours on end?

OASIS is amazing as is the hunt for an Easter Egg that takes over 5 years. I like the characters a lot as well as all the 80s trivia. Wade goes through a lot of trials and tribulations (view spoiler)

excellent book sometimes you need to get away from reality when everything is just a crappy mess but when being in virtual reality can get you killed in reality where the heck can you hide.... such a fabulous and exciting ride from reality into virtual reality and you do not miss a beat gripping and the oasis pulls you I.
