This is the second book in the Demon Hunting series which is set in the little town of Hannah where all sorts of strange things happen and the townsfolk are all hilarious and a little bit nuts.
Meet Evie a very shy woman who wouldn't say boo to a ghost she has caught the eye of very sexy demon hunter, Ansgar.
When Evie is charged with murder she did not commit she must find out who did the deed while dealing with her feelings for Ansgar and trying to build her confidence up.

The magic of the south with a hot demon hunter and a sassy human turned Dalvahni. Evie Douglas is 100% a southern belle, as is her BFF Addy. Well, I admit I didn't read book one and this was only felt a few times in the book but the main idea of what I missed was that Addy was dating a demon hunter and apparently at some point prior to this book Evie had dated and fallen in love with his brother, Ansgar. Well, I admit I didn't read book one and this was only felt a few times in the book but the main idea of what I missed was that Addy was dating a demon hunter and apparently at some point prior to this book Evie had dated and fallen in love with his brother, Ansgar. But life happened, aka demons got in the way, and the only way to save her was to kill her and then make her a dalvahni as well. Of course right after that Ansgar decided she was better off without him and erased her memories of him completely.

So that's how we find Evie in this book. With no recollection of who Ansgar is or of their time together. Going about her business she comes across the dead body of her bosses' wife. Foul play indeed and she's the primary suspect. I think this book was supposed to be about finding out who the real killer was so that Evie would be off the hook, but things got sidetracked along the way a few times. There's even a chihuahua serial killer! Not something you see every day.

This book was definitely enjoyable, I think more for someone who has lived in the south, or maybe knows someone from the south. Why? It is loaded with stereotypical phrases and mannerisms only found in southerners. To me this was highly entertaining.

Then there's Ansgar. The demon hunter is hot and supposed to be alpha but when it came to actions I think he fell short. In a way I saw him as more talk than anything actually happening. He was all tough and then Evie would come around and there went his iron fist.

Evie was both funny at times and annoying as hell. At least she had half a brain when it came to the murder and trying to solve it, but she still wanted to do what she wanted to do. I had a hard time making a real connection to her character.

I also thought it was a bit anticlimactic when she does recover her memories. Or Ansgar gives them back. At the end of the day there were some good laughs even a bit of action, but I thought there was a lot of unnecessary filler in this story which kept making me lose my concentration in reading.

The moment I fell in love with Ansgar:
"You are all woman, Evangeline, not the anemic version of what passes for feminine beauty in this reality. You have curving hips and plump breasts that make a man itch to test the weight of them in his hands and his cock sit up and pay attention. You are many things, including delectable and succulent as a ripe peach. But you are not - I repeat not - fat. And if you say so again in my hearing, I will turn you over my knee and spank your luscious little bottom. Is that understood?"

Although this couple "got together" in the first book, Demon Hunting in Dixie, Evie, the heroine doesn't remember Ansgar, the Hero. In order to save her from a body stealing demon, he had to shoot Evie with a "magical" arrow and bring her back from the dead. Ansgar, thinking that Evie would be better off without him, erases himself from her memory. Although she doesn't remember Ansgar, she has an overwhelming feeling that she is missing something in her life.
