There's something about Charles and Anna's story that is truly unique. I think it's Charles's Salish heritage, possibly combined with Anna's Omega status, that gives these stories a spirituality and gravitas that makes me take notice of every word. Anna and Charles may be an established couple but their love burns intensely so that even their brief fade-to-black sex scenes are more sensual than a dozen pages of erotica. I find their quiet natures and ferocious loyalty very appealing.

Great book, the only thing that kept it from 5 stars is there was too much time devoted to the horse world.

Anna and Charles can't go on a simple trip without running into trouble. In this case they find a fae is causing havoc and children are at risk. They eventually solve the case. The best part is watching their relationship grow.

The fae lord stalked back and forth in his cell of gray stone.

As Anna's birthday approaches, she and Charles travel to Arizona to visit and old friend and to possibly buy an Arabian horse for Anna. Anna wants a child and yet Charles hesitates. The trip begins as a pleasure excursion until They are drawn into the horror of kidnapped children and fae magic.

Charles' friend, Joseph Sani, is part of a werewolf/human family. Joseph is human and was at one time one of Charles' very best friends. He has

After the incredible badass ending of Fair Game (which I think I read over about 10 times in a row with my jaw unhinged I was so stunned) it was probably a little unfair to think this book could live up to it. I pre-ordered anyway but then some things I saw in reviews made me put it off. While I enjoyed it (I'm giving it 4 stars) it's far from a favorite in the Mercy/A&O world.

What's good? As always Briggs does such a good job making the fae and the werewolves in this world so not human, for lac

Quick summary. Charles has a friend! Horses. Evil fae on the loose! Horses. Anna and Charles channel Nancy Drew! Horses.

Really, lots of horses. After the end of the last book, I was expecting more fae hijinks than I got. The mystery with the fae was alright but the highlight was really the character development and interactions. Charles and Anna visit his old friend Joseph and it was fun to see some reminiscing of old times and a glimpse at a Charles beyond his enforcer persona.

Charles and Anna

I really love these two, and each story shows their relationship getting stronger and stronger. I'm anxious to see where this story arc goes next.
