This series is getting better. I think Sarah having a bigger role helped.
What I enjoyed:
* Verity is awesome! She finally has to make a decision about her future, stay in the family's cryptozoology business or continue trying to be a professional ballroom dancer.
* We finally get to see more of Sarah and learn about her. She is fascinating, being a Cuckoo with a conscience.
* Dominic is still around and has a harder decision than Verity. Does he stand with the Convent (who have come to town) or fo ...more

The second book in the series picks up six months after the first book ended but nothing much has changed. Things have stabilized a bit since the last book, Verity has had a chance to deepen her roots in Manhattan, although soon it will be time for her to choose - ballroom dancing or cryptozoology.

I am in awe of Seanan McGuire's imagination. Between this series and the Toby Daye series the worlds are so full and there are so many different fairy and cryptid races that it boggles the mind. This series is lighter in tone than the Toby Daye series but it is just as rich. Any book with talking mice who perform constant religious ceremonies is bound to make you smile.
