Simply a beautifully told story about a silverback gorilla and a young elephant. Students are going to love this book.

Because of the physical format, this book is an amazingly quick book to read. I guess Ivan didn't like writing long chapters.
The book is told from the viewpoint of Ivan, a gorilla who has been in captivity almost all of his life. It's based on a real gorilla, but the story is heavily fictionalized. Still, it's an intriguing story, and may marginally qualify as historical fiction in a few years.
Ivan is part of an indoor animal show in a very strange setting, sort of a small circus that never goes
