This is a hard one to rate. On one hand, this was a super compelling book. Even if I had no idea who Bethany Joy Lenz is (#Naley4ever), I think I still would have been gripped by this story and it's slow descent into cult life.
On the other hand, it's pretty Jesus-y. It was MUCH more about God than it was about One Tree Hill. Which is fine! But not necessarily what I was expecting, considering the subtitle focuses more on the cult TV show part. At the end of the book, she's still C ...more

Really enjoyed this book, you could see the slippery slope and how she ended up in so deep without really realizing what was happening. I have a bit more compassion for people on this situation.
I really want to know what these people are doing now!?! This book was so crazy and so sad to realize how people just had over their autonomy without even realizing it.

My Book of the Month pick for November because I’m a sucker for a cult story. Like how does this happen to someone? Apparently, rather easily.
Side note, I’ve never seen an episode of One Tree Hill but I absolutely remember Joie Lenz from Guiding Light because her character was hooking up with one of my high school crushes Danny Santos 🥰

This was very eye opening and hard to put down. It makes me really sad that someone who seems so bubbly and happy was dealing with something this horrific behind the scenes. So glad she was able to safely get away and continues to act. I LOVE her Hallmark movies and just her overall personality. By far one of my favorite unexpected reads of 2024.
