I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I'm so glad I read it. Set in Virginia during the Prohibition ad Great Depression, and moonshine...the illegal kind, and it hooked me from the get-go. Plenty of characters to love (or not) but even though there were many characters they weren't confusing to follow and keep track of who each one was as they all had such specific roles.

I’m a bit torn in how to rate this book. I love historical fiction, and I loved how fast-paced the plot of this book was, especially for a historical fiction. With the many plot turns and various series of events, there’s not a lot of depth to this story. I did love the character of Sallie Kincaid, which makes sense since she’s modeled after Queen Elizabeth I. I didn’t love the replication of the Henry VIII and his wives story line, so for that and the lack of depth, I rate this 4 stars
