“Was anyone content with the choices they made in youth? Perhaps not, or perhaps it had nothing to do with age. Perhaps we were all fools u til life taught us better, showed us what had been before our eyes all along.”

This nutcracker retelling was beautiful, dark, disturbing and magical. The Kingdom of Sweets gave me the same feeling I feel when watching the nutcracker ballet as I had while reading this book. The authors writing style was so perfect. I did think the magic was a little hard to f ...more

This was very dark. I didn’t love the main character at first, but soon I was enthralled by her. I aso really liked the “sugar plum fairy.” I was shocked at what the main character did regarding her sister. I liked the ending, but the very last chapter kind of left a lot to be desired. Over all this was a good retelling with great writing.
