I think, like quite a few other readers, that this book that follows (but not sure it's part of a series) The Firekeeper’s Daughter is a great book but not quite as good as the one prior to it. I love that the narrator is a young 16 year old Native girl named Perry. She also has a twin that she nicknamed Egg but whose real name is Pauline. I didn't like how the two were often compared as "she is the pretty one" or "she's the smarter one" or similar comparisons. Not good!

This throughly enjoyed this sophomore release by Angeline Boulley. I found the storyline surrounding the remains of ingenious people to be fascinating and something I was ignorant in. This story was compelling and left me with a lot to think about. The complex way in which Boulley exemplifies the way indigenous women are treated at all stages of life is riveting if not heartbreaking. I look forward to Boulley’s third book.
