This is a beautifully written gut-wrenching story. It's set in the late 1970's in a logging town. It's about a family who's way of life is starting to drastically change. The hillsides are sliding, the water is muddier than ever with less fish and they are running out of good wood to cut. Everyone can see the hillsides changing but no one is adding anything else up. Damnation Spring is a well-written novel centering around a logging community and a family whose entire existence depends on the logging industry. When environmental issues threaten to put an end to the industry in their area, it creates much strife within the community and within the families involved.

Wonderfully written. It's more of a character building novel so if you're looking for action and direct, this is not it. It's definitely a slow burn type of book and very detailed about logging. I really enjoyed this book and it's been awhile since a book made me sob. Very heavy themes in this book but if you are looking for a book to make you sit down and just think about life, love, family, friendship, and environmental issues I would recommend this book. ...more

I'm kind of torn on the rating for this one. I loved the characters and was totally invested in them, even Merle and Eugene. I guess I just wasn't ready for the sad parts, but that is life, right? ...more

This was a really great story that got lost in a sea of words. It was too long by about half. More concise writing would have let the story shine.
