I feel really bad rating this book low. I am clearly in the minority on this book. This is a book meant to move you emotionally and appreciate it's political undertones and family struggles. It just wasn't the book for me. I didn't connect to the story or any of the characters. I felt the story was extremely disjointed. Having said that, not every book is meant for every reader and I am in the minority of not liking it.

I hate giving this book 3 stars because I really wanted to love it - and so many pieces were there to make it a great book but it just felt a bit disjointed to me. The story of undocumented immigrants was absolutely fascinating and I really enjoyed hearing their story especially the separated nature of their family. But honestly, this 200 page book was a bit of a slog for me and I kept putting it down / picking it back up throughout due to the constant jumping of narrators / storylines.
This was okay but is really just not my normal read. Although I liked the people I just couldn't seem to get into the story.

I don’t know if I can write a review to do this book justice. I read and listened to this story. I’m so emotional at the end of this reading experience - I have so many thoughts and so many feelings. I can say this - I will never forget this story. Some books can change you - this is one of them. I cannot recommend this book highly enough.
