No review I could write would do this book justice. All I can say is that I hope everyone I know will invest in this stunningly gorgeous and important piece of literature as soon as possible.

“What was it about the country that kept everyone hostage to its fantasy?"
What a beautiful but heartbreaking story. This family is not different from so many other families. The 'American Dream' feels like a fever dream from so many years ago. There are few ways even for those born here to own a house, make enough to pay rent AND pay medical bills. Because I listened to this and sometimes missed events, I might not have gotten the full impact of this novel. I found it moving but would occasionally lose interest when the focus was on Talia, the teenager left behind in Colombia. I was more interested when the focus switched to the adults in the complex narrative. I'm glad I listened to it though.

This was okay but is really just not my normal read. Although I liked the people I just couldn't seem to get into the story.
