It bothers me that I think the last couple of generations don't think, or even know about The Great Depression or the Dust Bowl Era. I see our country headed back, through ignorance, suffering and greed, to a time of necessary revolution. We haven't listened to our past, we haven't honored the struggles of those who fought and died to give us the spoiled lifestyles we feel entitled to today. A historical fiction novel about the Great Depression, the Dust Bowl & the greed of BIG Farmers in California.

I hesitated between a 3 or 4 star rating for this one, only because I felt the story was slow in the beginning and there was too much repetitive imagery. (Just my personal opinion)

I want to read more about The Great Depression and The Dust Bowl Migration. I now understand the term: The Greatest Generation. I am in awe of the tenacity and resilience of the people who lived through this time.

Okay okay, I didn't give this book too many stars, because it ultimately wasn't my kind of book, and the devastating amount of despair wasn't necessarily something that I wanted to keep reading about, but hear me out - it still was a good book! Kristin Hannah wrote it beautifully and gave what felt like a chillingly accurate depiction of the struggle in the Great Plains and in California during the Dust Bowl era of the Great Depress
