Excellent story set during the Great Depression and the Dust Bowl of Texas. The protagonist is a woman who has always felt like she was not worthy of love and affection. When a young man shows her this for the first time, she falls hard. This is a story of the love of a mother and between women, striving to improve the life circumstances for themselves and mostly, their children.

Similar to the author’s other books, the characters come alive. This is a good story about the Dust Bowl which I know very little.

My problem with Kriston Hannah is that her historical fiction is listed right from Wikipedia with added characters in turmoil in events that really happened. I like to learn when I read and this did nothing for me. The Dust Bowl and migration to California is well documented in many other books.
