Kristin Hannah books always leave me conflicted. The main character, Elsa, annoyed me in the first half of the book. She whined for the first 200 pages about the difficult roadtrip to California, and then when they finally leave, the entire trip takes about a chapter. That was it?
The second half of the book got better. I wish the author had used some of the 450 pages to lengthen the ending. I felt like it ended abruptly (but also not soon enough?) and did not affect me the way it intended. The b ...more

After reading The Nightingale about a year ago, I was so excited to get my hands on The Four Winds. Kristin Hannah did not disappoint- it was such a beautifully written story about a mom’s love for her kids and her determination to get them through the Great Depression. I love how Kristin Hannah highlights the work that women have done throughout history to fight for what is right. It was a tear-jerker but was so moving and powerful.

One of the most depressing books I have ever read, but it is to be expected with Kristin Hannah. It was a slow read for me and it also wasn't one of my favorites by this author.
